Linoleum-Club
Establishing and managing an art space to support young artists from Munich.
Space is a rare resource in all large cities. And especially in Munich, Germany's most expensive city, it is not easy to find suitable exhibition spaces for artists who are not yet well established. To provide support in this field, I founded the Linoleum Club in 2013, together with three other creative artists: Fabian Bross, Lina Augustin, and Veronika Winterholler. We created the opportunity to give young artists from Munich an exhibition space and a platform to present their own art, try things out, and to gain experience.
At these exhibitions, classical paintings could be shown, but sculptures and interactive elements were also represented. The openings, which were always well attended, provided an ideal setting for readings, concerts, DJ sets, and performances.
During the exhibition period, the Linoleum Club offered thematically related events such as workshops, discussions, or intercultural cooking events.
Due to its popularity, the Linoleum Club became a brand for independent, young, fresh art and subculture in Munich. The exhibiting artists were able to use this brand for their public outreach and increase their visibility outside the exhibition space.
As another way of providing support, we have advised artists to develop finished exhibition concepts from as yet unfinished ideas. Often by bringing together artists who were a thematic match so that they could collaborate and hold collective exhibitions.
